Notevember the Third

By Jonathan R

Third time's the charm!

Once is happenstance. Twice is a pattern. But three times? Now we’re talking tradition.

So here it is: Notevember is happening for the third year in a row. Same procedure as last year, with minimal changes. This time around I have a job to fit my writing and composing around, so I might cheat a little and start early. Other than that, the rules are the same (see below).

If you already know all about Notevember, just head on over to the blog and start browsing for Notevember goodness.

What is Notevember?

Notevember is when I use other people’s Inktober art as inspiration to write short stories, poems and songs every day in November. The rules are as follows:

  1. One piece of writing per day. The art may be viewed beforehand, but only a cursory glance is allowed.
  2. Write/sing/play/record and publish the piece all on the same day. No more than 24 hours can be spent on a single post.
  3. Match day to day, i.e. Inktober art from October 3rd can only be used as inspiration for creations on November 3rd. Last post on December 1st, of course.
  4. Only use art with the artist’s consent, and credit the artist according to their preference.
  5. Publish it online. This stuff should be seen and heard, not hidden away from the world.

Any news for the third edition?

This time around, I am got in touch with people whom I didn’t know personally. I reached out on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Discord to find strangers who were drawing, painting, doodling or creating anything visual for Inktoberand ask if they were interested in contributing to this project.

Due to the nature of one particular piece of art, there will also be a bonus feature posted sometime in early December.

Stuff to read and listen to? Where?

Everything will be published on the blog, and tagged “notevember 2021”. The songs will also be uploaded to my Soundcloud, but they will be posted here just like the rest.

Everything from the first and second rounds of Notevember can be found here (2019) and here (2020).

The first post for this year’s Notevember can be found here.
