Lyrics:

Dear
I hope this finds you well
I promised I would write
That plan has sadly failed
I have made a mess

It’s quite a tale to tell
Of a misbegotten night
I’m writing you from jail
They want me to confess

But I’m done for either way
Execution without stay
For theft
There’s nothing left to say
To sum it up, dear:

It’s all going pear-shaped
And I don’t know how I’ll
Get out of this scrape
I might end up strung up
Picked up by the nape
Of my neck and I know
That I won’t escape
This time around
I’m not homeward, I’m just bound

Here’s how it all went down:
We made a solid plan
We practiced for the game
With contingencies, of course

We sauntered into town
A gun to every man
Now the prosecutor claims
That we used excessive force

I’d be done for anyway
Execution without stay
No use
I’ll make the news today
To sum it up, dear:

[CHORUS]

And I feel we were defeated by a fluke
‘Cause it was just me and Duke
And two guards, that we had expected
Six more showed up
and they were too many to juke
Both of us got pretty spooked
That the place was so well-protected

Got some shots off pretty quick
But then I heard my rifle click
There’s a limit to my tricks
And I knew we were in a fix, so

That’s all I wanted to say
Now’s the time for me to pay
my dues
I’ll get the noose today
To sum it up, dear:

It’s all going pear-shaped
And I don’t know how I’ll
Get out of this scrape
I might end up strung up
Picked up by the nape
Of my neck and I know
That I won’t escape
This time around, I’m saying

[CHORUS]

I’m not homeward, I’m just bound
I’m not homeward, I’m just bound
